Energy Transition

What drives us: the Purpose of the ENGIE Group

The Group’s Purpose Statement and its inclusion in the Company’s Statutes (Article 2) was approved by ENGIE S/A’s shareholders in May 2020. The statement is a co-creation, fruit of a robust process of consultations with employees, customers, partners, and shareholders, in addition to representatives from civil society.

ENGIE’s purpose (“raison d’être”) is to act in order to accelerate the transition to a carbon-neutral society through reduced energy consumption and more environmentally friendly solutions. The purpose unites the company, customers and its shareholders and reconciles economic performance with a positive impact on people and the planet. ENGIE’s actions should be evaluated in their totality over time.

ENGIE's response to climate change

ENGIE develops its activities around a model based on sustainable growth to address the major challenges of the energy transition to a low-carbon economy: expanding access to renewable energy, mitigating and adapting to climate change, ensuring supply security, and the rational use of natural resources.

To promote harmonious progress and lead the energy transition in Brazil, the company aims to offer increasingly integrated and innovative solutions for individuals, businesses, and cities, in alignment with ENGIE's global strategy of Decarbonization, Digitalization, and Decentralization.

Para implementar esta transição, a estratégia de negócios da ENGIE está focada em três atividades-chave para o futuro:

  • Low carbon production, especially from renewable energy and natural gas;
  • Energy infrastructure;
  • Efficient solutions tailored to the needs of customers.

ENGIE Group's non-financial objectives

The statement of Purpose is notably reflected in the new concrete objectives of Socio-Environmental Responsibility, as announced by the Group earlier this year:

  • Greenhouse gas emissions resulting from electricity generation must be reduced from 149 Mt in 2016 to 43 Mt by 2030 (assuming 80 Mt in 2019).
  • Regarding gender diversity, the participation of women in the Group's management should increase from approximately 23% in 2016 to 50% by 2030 (24% in 2019).
  • The share of renewable energy in the production capacity mix is expected to reach 58% by 2030, compared to 20% in 2016 (28% in 2019).
