The Despertar no Esporte (“Awaken to Sports”) Project was conducted in the city of Estreito (state of Maranhão), under the motto “Educate to Transform”. ENGIE provided sponsorship in the amount of BRL 353,161.82. A total of 586 children from 15 schools were involved. The four-month competition culminated in a drawing of lots that awarded 26 children and six teachers a trip to Rio de Janeiro, where they visited the Maracanã stadium, the Museum of Tomorrow and the Christ the Redeemer Statue, among other attractions.

Objetivos

• To develop a taste for doing sports;
• In addition to the benefits inherent to sports, to develop integration among students, developing skills like leadership, team spirit and cooperation with the involvement of teachers as well;
• To stimulate healthy competition, with prizes for the best performers;
• Finally, educate to transform.

Results

• Doing sports in a region lacking in appropriate spaces and opportunities;
• Appreciation of local schools;
• Learning about teamwork;
• Community integration;
• An opportunity for 26 children and six teachers showing standout performance to visit the city of Rio de Janeiro, visiting sites like the Museum of Tomorrow, the Maracanã stadium and the Christ the Redeemer statue.
